INTERNATIONAL FELLOWSHIP OF FLYING ROTARIANS
Scandinavian section August 14th – 16th 2015

2015 Svendborg 1. Svendborg
This year the Scandinavian flyin will take you to the beautiful South Sea of Denmark. The country is made up of 406 islands and islets. Unified in 955 AC Denmark is the oldest still existing kingdom of the world, and we are very happy for the opportunity to invite you to visit for the Scandinavian IFFR 2015 gathering! This time the city of Svendborg, located at the southern coast of Fyn, will be the backdrop of our meeting. Svendborg is a very charming town with a bustling commercial community. It has however preserved its old town centre with narrow, crooked streets, squares and courtyards that are reminiscent of Svendborg´s history.

2015 Svendborg 2. Citty

Today, Svendborg is a unique mix of old and new, of seafaring, culture and history – geared to the rhythms of today. Svendborg is also the first Cittaslow town in Denmark. Cittaslow is all about focusing on the quality of life. It´s about engaging in the present and finding you own pace of life. And not least, it’s about giving you time to enjoy the good things in life.
We will stay in Hotel Svendborg, which is right in the centre of the town, a short stroll away from everything – almost.

2015 Svendborg 3. MS Helge

MS Helge will provide transport from Valdemar castle to the town of Svendborg. Built in 1924 it is one of the longest serving ferries in Denmark. Enjoy the archipelago of the south sea of Denmark while the boat makes its way between some of the many islands in this beautiful part of Denmark.

2015 Svendborg 4. Egeskov

For more than 450 years, Egeskov has stood in its beautiful location in the landscape of Southern Funen. Egeskov is famous for being the best preserved moat castle in Europe. In the more than 450 years that have passed since it was built, various families have lived in the castle. In 1784, Egeskov was sold to Henrik Bille whose descendants have owned the castle ever since. The park has been open to the public for several generations and has remained unchanged since 1959 when restoration of the historic grounds commenced.

2015 Svendborg 5. Egeskov park

The castle park at Egeskov was designed by Niels Krag who was at Egeskov from 1722-1740.
The layout of the park drew its inspiration from the royal castle parks at Fredensborg and Frederiksborg as well as those of Versailles. The gardens consist of a large number of separate areas surrounded by high hedges, the highest measuring 8 metres. The park is by the European Garden & Heritage Network named ”Best European historic garden 2012”

2015 Svendborg 6. Egeskov Veteran Car Museum

The Egeskov Veteran Car Museum is filled with impressive motor vehicles, several aircraft and other exciting collections of hardware.
One of the largest collections in Northern Europe is on display in the Motorcycle Museum which contains a unique collection of two-wheeled vehicles from the 1920s to the 1970s

2015 Svendborg 7. Egeskov room

The castle is also open to visitors. The rooms are styled with different settings from the period of the castle.

2015 Svendborg 8. Egeskov fashionable women

Two of Egeskov’s fashionable women, Baroness Camilla and her daughter, Countess Jessie, were considered contemporary style icons. The Gate House exhibition shows a selection of their priceless fashion magazines, clothes and garments from the French fashion houses Worth, Gagalin and Sonaird, fans from Ernest Kees, shoes from J.A. Petit, and many other magnificent items.

Baroness Camilla purchased parts of a dress which once belonged to Marie-Antoinette, the “dress” may be found at the Gate House also. The dress was exhibited at Louvre in Paris in 1927 and being able to see parts of a Marie-Antoinette dress is something of a world-sensation.

Egeskov also house the very special Titania’s Palace, a impressive miniature castle (Dollhouse) that was hand-built in Ireland.
